“The threat of poisoning has kept many a husband loyal”
Sagely advice for wives

You may not be aware of the fact that right now you are involved in a chemical romance. Stop what you are doing for a moment and take a look around. Everything you come in contact with is a chemical. The keyboard you are sat in front of is a polymer, the clothes you are wearing are dyed with chemicals, the coffee or tea you may be drinking contains caffeine.

Most of us benefit greatly from our chemical romance. There are others however who are not so lucky. Their chemical romance ends in injury and even their ultimate demise.

  • Are you interested in being taken on a journey that will commence at early man and feature a wide spectrum of characters that were heavily involved in the chemical romance of others?

  • Are you curious to know what the witches of Macbeth were cooking in their cauldron? What was so special about the skin of those toads that they used? Did the psychotropic poisons really give them the ability to fly, or was it simply a load of nonsense?

  • What was it that the teacup poisoner, Graham Young, knew about poisoning those cups of tea? What was it he learned from his chemistry set and what did he learn in prison that enabled him to eliminate his victims? What was it his victims did not know that could have saved their lives, instead condemned to a grave of ignorance and futility? What were his motives and most importantly, what was his method?

  • What is it about arsenic that made it so fashionable to use during the Golden Age of Poisoning?

  • What do we know about the covert operations by certain security forces regarding the quiet methods of dispatch employed to silence political critics?

  • What do those E-numbers on your food labels really mean and can they really keep you looking youthful?

Would you know if someone was trying to poison you?
Laura's husband would. He worries sometimes that one day he might find such information useful, "What on earth have I got myself into?" he was heard to say on their wedding day.

Laura Robinson is the author of two industry standard text books on toxicology, she is a renowned speaker and expert witness for toxicology and poisoning cases. A humanist and advocate against the use of animals in toxicological research, Laura can be as controversial as she can be sassy. As scathing of the animal rights movement as she is of the research facilities, Laura has been heard to proclaim, "Fanatics make terrible spokes-people and probably do as much harm to the liberty of species as the scientists who pour the acid."

She is only 5`4" tall but as her mother once said, "“Poison comes in small bottles.” Mrs Robinson, Snr, is probably quite right about that. So please don't take your eyes off her and keep smiling sweetly. Everything will be fine.

"Laura Robinson, in her professional role as a Toxicologist, came to our Chanctonbury WI Science Group Meeting in April and gave a fascinating talk titled "Poisons - A Chemical Romance".  We very much enjoyed her talk because though it encompassed the wide definition of 'poisons' , Laura's theatrical sense of humour  lightened the subject of infamous poisoners, particularly in the Victorian era." Marita Watteau

"Laura Robinson brought to me clarity, truth , light and knowledge at a different level. Very positive experience." Ekaterina Gaffney.

"As a Barrister, with extensive experience of expert witnesses in many fields, I can recommend Laura Robinson as accessible, personable, and able to explain extremely complex issues with ease and clarity. An excellent choice for toxicological advice or testimony.” James Kirby
